Health & Wellness in School

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health. Click here to learn more: A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians

CBE (Calgary Board of Education) educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – to do so; they need the right tools and information.

Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those who support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.

The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver understanding of a variety of health-related topics.

School Council and Parent Society

Bob Edwards School and the School Council and Parent Society meet monthly (approximately) to build and strengthen our partnership, discuss student learning, and consult on decisions impactful to our school community. We meet in the Learning Commons at Bob Edwards School on the last Tuesday of most months at 6:30 P.M. Parents and guardians in our school community are welcome to join. The second School Council meeting of the 2023-24 school year and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 6:30 PM. The Bob Edwards School Council can be reached at bobeparentsfundraisingsociety@gmail.com

Our School Survey

Bob Edwards School will be participating in an online school perception survey for students called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. This anonymous survey is voluntary for all CBE students. This is an opportunity for Grade 6 – 12 students to provide feedback on:

  • Sense of belonging
  • Positive relationships
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Self-esteem
  • Feeling safe at school
  • Life satisfaction
  • General Health
  • Orientation to well-being
  • Self-regulation
  • Cultural awareness

The school and CBE use the results of the survey to consider next steps and target interventions. At Bob Edwards School, the OurSCHOOL Survey will be administered to all grade levels during the weeks of October 9 and October 16. If you have questions or would like to request more information about Bob Edwards School's upcoming implementation of the OurSCHOOL Student Survey, please contact Camille Haggar; at cmhaggar@cbe.ab.ca

Athletics Updates

Please see the Athletics page of our school website for all Athletic Updates.

Reminders:

A parent or guardian must supervise student spectators at all athletics events.

All students require proper footwear for physical education classes. Crocs, slides, and flip-flops are not safe to wear when engaging in sports. Also, please dress for the weather. Physical education classes are still happening outdoors this fall.

Energy Drinks

Students are not to consume energy drinks (Red Bull, Monster, etc.) on school property or bring energy drinks onto school property. These drinks are classified as having the following ingredients: Caffeine, Taurine, Guarana, and elevated levels of sugar. If students have questions about which drinks might not be acceptable, they can ask the office.

Weather Reminders

  • Please ensure your child is prepared with outdoor clothing and footwear for all weather conditions.
  • All students enjoy 20 minutes of fresh air at lunch and some physical education classes outside and this time is much more enjoyable if they are dressed for the weather.
  • Students should not arrive at school before 8:40 am
  • Students should be picked up from school by 3:40 pm (There is no supervision outside of these times.)

Student pick-up and drop-off procedures

As a school, we thank you for your support in ensuring a safe environment for our students to come and go from school daily. We have close to 500 students who are trying to make their way and for that reason, we do not permit drop-off and pick-up in the bus zone in front of the school. If you have another trusted adult dropping off or meeting your child after school, we ask that you remind them of this practice. Thank you for your care and attention to this in support of our students! Also, please remind your students to use the crosswalks for safe crossing of Marlborough Drive.

Have a great weekend! We are looking forward to another wonderful week of teaching and learning next week!

Sincerely,

Bob Edwards School
