School Council and Parent Society

Bob Edwards School and the School Council and Parent Society meet monthly (approximately) to build and strengthen our partnership, discuss student learning, and consult on decisions impactful to our school community. We meet in the Learning Commons at Bob Edwards School on the last Tuesday of most months at 6:30 PM. Parents and guardians in our school community are welcome to join. The second School Council meeting of the 2023-24 school year will be on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 6:30 PM. Notice of the Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The Annual General Meeting will take place during the October 24, 2023, School Council and Parent Society meeting. In the AGM meeting, there will be an opportunity to learn about the different executive positions on the School Council and Parent Society. There will also be an opportunity to provide feedback on the Bob Edwards School Council and Parent Society bylaws.

School Council Chair

·       The chair actively encourages others to become involved in meaningful ways and organizes both programs and people.

·       Chairing and organizing meetings, communicating regularly with the school principal; ensuring regular communication with the school community.

School Council Vice-Chair

·       This role may be shared with the chair through the creation of co-chairing positions.

·       The vice-chair assists the chair and prepares to become the school council chair in the future.

·       Helping to prepare for school council meetings.

Key Communicator

·       The key communicator works to build and enhance a connection between parents/school communities and the Calgary Board of Education.

·       Attending Community of School Councils (COSC) meetings.

Secretary

·       The secretary acts as a recorder at each meeting and ensures meeting minutes are accurate.

·       Keeping minutes, correspondence, and records.

Treasurer

·       If the school council is handling money, the treasurer keeps an accurate record of funds and financial transactions. 

·       Reporting to the School Council on the receipt and expenditure of funds.

Community Member

·       The community member is an optional position that is strongly encouraged. A community member can provide a valuable perspective and connect the school to the larger community.

To all our soccer and basketball players and families, please refer to the schedule below, your coaches, the bulletin board outside the gym, and the hard copy schedules provided to you on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, for further game day details.

Moving forward, to keep the length of the Eagles Week Ahead / La semaine à venir reasonable, all athletics updates, game, and practice schedules will be posted on the Athletics page of our school website.

Weather Reminders

·       Please ensure your child is prepared for all weather conditions with outdoor clothing and footwear.

·       All students enjoy 20 minutes of fresh air at lunch and some physical education classes outside and this time is much more enjoyable if they are dressed for the weather.

·       With hot weather, please make sure your student comes to school with a water bottle and sun hat.

·       Students should not arrive at school before 8:40 am

·       Students should be picked up from school by 3:40 pm (There is no supervision outside of these times.)

Student pick-up and drop-off procedures

As a school, we thank you for your support in ensuring a safe environment for our students to come and go from school daily. We have close to 500 students who are trying to make their way home safely each day and for that reason, we do not permit drop-off and pick-up in the bus zone in front of the school. If you have another trusted adult meet your child after school, we ask that you remind them of this practice. Thank you for your care and attention to this in support of our students! Also, please remind your students to use the crosswalks for safe crossing of Marlborough Drive.
