I truly hope this beautiful weather sticks around for a while. Things are going strong here at the school, and our teachers are finishing up their student assessments. Our current assessments are another tool that assists us in developing early support plans for all the needs of our learners, and the data we collect helps the admin team address the current needs of the building to ensure academic, behavioural, and social skill development.

I’m eagerly anticipating our upcoming School Council Meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., and this meeting will be held at Bob Edwards. It's always wonderful to see everyone come together for these important discussions.

Additionally, I wanted to remind you all about our Meet and Greet the Teacher Night on Thursday, September 25, 2025. The event will kick off at 5:30 p.m. and will take place right here at our school. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to connect and for you to meet the dedicated teachers who are working with your children.

On another important note, I would greatly appreciate your support in speaking with your children about the importance of their behaviour when practicing our Fire Drills and Lockdown Drills. These drills are crucial for ensuring the safety of everyone at Bob Edwards in the event of a real-life incident or emergency. By taking these drills seriously, we can work together to safeguard lives, which is something we all deeply value.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support. Have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming events.

Attendance

Regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of success in school. By Grade 3, students who miss too much school are less likely to read at grade level; by Grade 6, chronic absenteeism increases the risk of not completing high school; by Grade 9, attendance outperforms test scores in predicting graduation.

What the Alberta Education Act & CBE expect (ages 6 – 16): Students must attend school regularly and punctually; schools make reasonable efforts to ensure attendance and contact families when attendance is not satisfactory. At CBE “chronic absenteeism” is often considered around 10% of the school year (about 18 days).

How parents/guardians can help (we are partners):

  • Aim for consistent, on-time attendance; book trips/appointments outside school hours where possible.
  • Report absences/late arrivals the same day; for extended absences (2+ weeks), please connect with teachers, administrators, and the front office in advance.
  • If attendance becomes a concern, we will reach out promptly to create a support plan together.

Athletics Updates

Please see the Athletics page of our school website for all Athletic Updates.

For all athletics tryouts, please ensure that your child comes prepared with appropriate athletic attire, water, and a signed copy of the Annual Authorization for Athletic Tryout (you can check off all the sports you would want for your child to try out for the whole year- this way you will avoid signing multiple forms for multiple sports)

We encourage all interested students to participate, regardless of their experience level. It’s a great way for them to challenge themselves and be part of our school spirit!

Weather Reminders

This time of year means the regular transition between warm and cold weather. Please help your student come to school prepared for the weather over the next several weeks.

  • Please ensure your child is prepared with outdoor clothing and footwear for all weather conditions.
  • All students enjoy 20 minutes of fresh air at lunch (weather permitting) and some physical education classes outside, and this time is much more enjoyable if they are dressed for the weather.
  • Families are encouraged to review this checklist to be prepared for using transportation every school day and throughout the school year. Transportation Family Checklist
  • Please ensure your child is prepared with outdoor clothing and footwear for all weather conditions.
  • Students should not arrive at school before 8:55 a.m. (Soft entry starts at 9:03 a.m.)
  • Students must be picked up from school by 4:00 p.m.

Parking Reminders

  • Please do not park or drop off students in front of the school in the bus zone between 7 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
