We meet in the Learning Commons at Bob Edwards School on the last Tuesday of most months at 6:00 p.m. Parents and guardians in our school community are welcome to join. The first School Council meeting of the 2026-27 school year will be on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The Bob Edwards School Council can be reached at bobeparentsfundraisingsociety@gmail.com

Please come and join this tremendous group with which we enjoy a strong partnership. You don’t need to sign up for any ‘big jobs’, and any member of our community is welcome to attend.

Parking Reminders | Please Read

  • Please do not park or drop off students in the bus zone in front of the school between 7 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. This has been going well!
  • We now have 6 school buses at Bob Edwards School, and they need the space to operate safely.
  • Please do not drop off or pick up your child from the staff parking lot. Staff arrive throughout the morning, and students dropped off in the staff parking lot are unsafe given the limited space. Our parking lot is full this year, and visitor parking is only street parking.

Action required | Complete Online Forms by September 14, 2026 (Repeat Message)

Each year, schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians / independent students are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online.

If you have already completed your annual forms, you can disregard this reminder.

In CBE, the forms in an online format (SchoolEngage) are:

  • Demographic Verification - 2026-27 – This required form is an Alberta Education and Childcare requirement as proof of Registration for funding purposes and includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
  • Citizenship Information Update - 2026-27 – This form becomes available and is required to complete if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
  • Annual Authorization - 2026-27 – Combines the following forms:
o School District Use of Personal Information - explains how CBE uses personal information in providing education services.
o Consent for CBE Use of Student Information – provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by school/district and third parties.
o Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party) - provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by outside groups and third parties
o Consent for Student Participation in Annual CBE Surveys – these surveys support school and system planning and help improve programs and supports offered to students
o Parental Opt-In for Notifiable curriculum for students in grades 3 to 9 – written consent of parents prior to providing instructions or materials that deal primarily and explicitly with human sexuality, gender identity or sexual orientation. Students are unable to participate in this portion of the curriculum unless consent is granted.

SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account used to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, register to volunteer etc.

If you do not have a MyCBE account, click Create a MyCBE Account on the MyCBE page. For online help, refer to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).

To complete these forms:

1. sign in to your MyCBE account

2. click on the SchoolEngage icon

3. select the form

4. complete or review and update the form

5. click on Submit to send the form electronically to the school

6. repeat steps 3-5 for each form

Please submit the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms in SchoolEngage for your child by Monday, Sep. 14.  These forms are mandatory every year for Alberta Education and Childcare to confirm student funding.

Family and Caregiver Communication

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join a live online series on supporting child and youth well-being. The series is hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with local experts from the Calgary community.

Attached to this update is a poster with sessions designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today. Along with the poster, additional session details are available on our corporate website: Child and Youth Well-Being Family and Caregiver Series.

Supporting Positive Behaviour and Student Success

We will continue to use our proactive and restorative behaviour strategies established at Bob Edwards School to support the inclusion and well-being of all our students. We will continue to use our Student Office Referral system, referred to as purple slips.

This work is guided by two of the CBE Administrative Regulations:

1.    Progressive Discipline

2.    Welcoming, Caring, Respectful and Safe Learning and Work Environments

The Student Office Referral (purple slip) assists teachers with classroom behaviour management and aligns with the school’s proactive strategies already in place at Bob Edwards School. Here is how it works:

  • Proactive support in the classroom: Teachers use a range of proactive, relationship-based strategies to support students in making positive choices, meeting classroom expectations, and remaining engaged in their learning. The goal is always to understand the student’s needs, build on their strengths, and support them in successfully returning to learning.
  • Additional support when concerns continue: If a concern continues despite classroom-based supports, the teacher may complete a Student Office Referral (purple slip) and ask the student to meet with the Principal or Assistant Principal (AP). This step provides an opportunity for the student to receive additional support and work toward a positive resolution.
  • Problem-solving and restoring success: The Principal or AP will meet with the student to better understand the situation and continue using proactive, restorative, and supportive strategies. The actions and support provided will be documented on the back of the Student Office Referral (purple slip). When the student is ready to demonstrate the expected behaviour and successfully re-engage in learning, they will be supported in returning to the classroom. The teacher will be informed of the steps taken so that consistent support can continue.
  • Home-school partnership: At the end of the day, the Student Office Referral (purple slip) will be sent home with the student. Parents and/or guardians are asked to review and sign the slip and support their child in reflecting on the experience and identifying positive next steps. The student is expected to return the signed slip directly to the office the following school day. If the slip is not returned, the school will connect with the parent and/or guardian to strengthen the home-school partnership and determine any additional supports that may be helpful.
  • Suspension as a last resort: If a student is unable to re-engage successfully or their actions do not align with the CBE Code of Conduct, the Principal may determine that a suspension is necessary. Suspension is considered a last-resort response after efforts have been made to understand and address the concern within the school. When a suspension is required, the principal will contact the parent and/or guardian directly, and the family will receive a letter outlining the details and next steps. The focus remains on supporting the student’s successful return to school and learning.
  • Working together for student success: The ongoing partnership of parents and/or guardians is an important part of creating a strong, caring, and inclusive school community. Together, we can help build a greater sense of safety, optimism, pride, belonging, and place for all learners at Bob Edwards. Our shared goal is to ensure every student feels supported, valued, and capable of making positive choices and experiencing success.
  • Teachers have taken the time to cover the BE Student Handbook with students during the first week of school, including the Digital Devices Policy Away for the Day and the Alberta Ministerial Order regarding digital devices.

Athletics Updates

Please see the Athletics page of our school website for all Athletic Updates. The Physical Education teachers have also put together a Physical Education website, available here.

Weather Reminders

This time of year means the regular transition between warm, cold, and rainy weather. Each day students engage in various outdoor learning activities including journaling, physical education, recess and other opportunities to learn from the land.

  • Please ensure your child is prepared with outdoor clothing and footwear for all weather conditions. This includes sweaters, rain jackets, mittens, hats, snow pants and boots when necessary. Here is a great reference sheet to help your student plan accordingly to learn outside.
  • Families are encouraged to review this checklist to be prepared for using transportation every school day and throughout the school year. Transportation Family Checklist
  • Students should not arrive at school before 8:55 a.m. (Soft entry starts at 9:03 a.m.)
  • Students must be picked up from school by 4:00 p.m.

Have a nice weekend,

Bob Edwards School
